For more than three decades, Carol Tate has been privileged to be an integral part of designing, fabricating, and collaborating with other designers to create fine custom furnishings, accessories and artwork. Her creations grace the interiors of high-end and luxury residences, commercial spaces, public spaces, and luxury yachts, both Nationally and Internationally.
Her work as artist, designer, and maker, had it’s beginnings in the fine arts as a painter and botanical illustrator in her home town of Houston. Relocating to Seattle in her early twenties, Tate became immersed in the textile arts, creating pieced constructions of linen, all hand dyed in her studio. This involvement led to work in surface design, and the small scale hand printing and painting of textiles and custom wallpaper. Carol’s future in the interior design trade was launched when she was discovered by Seattle interior designer, Jean Jongeward, with whom she continued to work for decades to follow.
During the eighties and nineties, Carol produced high-end custom upholstered seating for the Seattle elite, collaborating extensively with high-end interior designers, as well as directly with private clientele. Her Artisanaworks sewing workroom offered custom decorative pillow fabrication along with down and feather work. The art and surface design background remains an integral part of her work to this day.
Her Seattle home furnishings and décor showroom became a regular stop for designers, stylists, and public seeking artfully unique decorative finds, textiles, and Carol’s latest hand made creations. The showroom also performed as a prop rental gallery for department store photo stylists and movie industry. See photos included in her pictorial bio.
Carol Tate now works and resides in the Texas Hill Country, and offers her luxury, custom made decorative pillow services on-line. Her home furnishing and décor showroom is now the Fleur-de-Lis Flea, an on-line flea market housed within the Artisanaworks site ~ a creative design marketplace featuring artful, one-of-a-kind décor, wearables, and unique finds.
